Poetry
These sample graphic poems express some of my ideas and observations from “Visions of a Certain Age,” my collection that focuses on the aging population and ageism in today’s America.
The elderly segment of our society is large but largely misunderstood, widely diverse but narrowly stereotyped. Ageism may be learned or systemic, but it inevitably leads to dismissal of the elderly as burdens on society despite their many accomplishments and contributions to the world—even those made during their later years. I hope through this work to show not only the physical, mental, and social situations they face, but how they overcome them to lead positive, contributory lives.
